Love Firefox but can’t live without Internet Explorer as well? Ever feel the need of looking at a webpage in different browsers, but wish they were all accessible from one single program? Want to access Windows Update from within Firefox but feel forced to use IE?
If your answer is yes, you might want to give a look at today’s extension.
IE Tab is a web development add-on, which gives you the possibility of having Internet Explorer’s rendering engine integrated into your Firefox session: on any open tab, you can simply click a button, and it’ll be automatically reloaded using IE’s engine, as if you were using Microsoft’s own browser instead of Firefox.
Two new icons will be added in your browser: one on the right bottom, near to the status bar, the other next to the address bar. Clicking either one of the two, will make your current page reload, and in a matter of seconds, you will be able to open any site, even Windows update, into Firefox.
IE Tab can be personalized through its settings menu:
- Sites Filter: You can set any given URL to be open by default with IE’s engine, whether if you want it to be like that, or simply because it will need IE to run (i.e. www.windowsupdate.com).
- General Settings: Lets you specify which items and icons you want to see, and how to use the rendering engine when called (open new tab, use it to open any new URL…).
- Context Menu: Personalize what you want to see into your right-click menu and personal bookmarks menu.
- External Application: Even though the software is called IE Tab, it can use any external application or browser, as long as you specify its path.
Plus, all of your settings can be exported/imported and restored to default.
Finally, I can say this is a great extension, that I have been using for quite a long time, and that everyone should try sooner or later.
