Many web-based music services are raising lately, and we all have used them at least once, specially when away from home, or can access our music library. One of the coolest one though, and maybe one of the first ones to be born, is Pandora. Unfortunately this amazing service is currently available only in the US, leaving everyone else without this fantastic resource.

As a matter of fact, using Pandora through the HTTPS protocol bypasses this limitation, allowing everyone to access the service, no matter where located. The trick is simply to use a software that forces the web-browser to utilize a secure HTTP session any time that this is available.

The extension is called HTTPS Everywhere: it is available for both Chrome and Firefox and, after installed, it works seamlessly testing if the website you are currently visiting allows HTTPS sessions and, for Pandora, this works.

There’s nothing more to explain as this is one of the simplest extension for the end user…we just hope that Pandora doesn’t fix this, or at least keeps granting us with a secure session from everywhere we are.

Every day we are increasingly searching, downloading, and installing for new plug-ins that can help us to have a more secure browsing experience.

You need to protect your data, nowadays when you surf you use very personal data and you don’t want that these informations getting into the wrong hands.

For this reason every software house is trying to make its browser even more secure.

Adobe Flash Player is now sandboxed in the latest dev channel release of Google Chrome, bringing a huge security benefit to Chrome users.

Here’s the original article by Chromium blog:

Since this past March, we’ve been working closely with Adobe to allow Flash Player to take advantage of new sandboxing technology in Chrome, extending the work we’ve already done with sandboxing for HTML rendering and JavaScript execution.

This week, we’re excited to roll out the initial Flash Player sandbox for our dev channel users on Windows XP, Vista and 7.

This initial Flash Player sandbox is an important milestone in making Chrome even safer. In particular, users of Windows XP will see a major security benefit, as Chrome is currently the only browser on the XP platform that runs Flash Player in a sandbox.

This first iteration of Chrome’s Flash Player sandbox for all Windows platforms uses a modified version of Chrome’s existing sandbox technology that protects certain sensitive resources from being accessed by malicious code, while allowing applications to use less sensitive ones.

This implementation is a significant first step in further reducing the potential attack surface of the browser and protecting users against common malware.

While we’ve laid a tremendous amount of groundwork in this initial sandbox, there’s still more work to be done. We’re working to improve protection against additional attack vectors, and will be using this initial effort to provide fully sandboxed implementations of the Flash Player on all platforms.

We’ll be posting updates as we continue working with Adobe to add new security improvements to the Flash Player sandbox. For those of you on the dev channel for Windows, you’ll be automatically updated soon, and we look forward to your feedback as you test it out. If you prefer to disable this initial sandbox in your Chrome dev experience, add –disable-flash-sandbox to the command line.

I recently found an add-on for Google Chrome that lets me save my bookmarks using my Google account.

It is very useful, to me, because I find a lot of interesting news, and websites, everyday and I cannot save everyone of them in my browser’s bookmarks.

Using BoogleMarks I can access to all my bookmarked sites from everywhere, and everytime I need. This a good idea to have my bookmarks sync automatically.

I know that there are currently a lot of extensions that do this: but BoogleMarks is different. It has a lot of options that allow you to full customize the add on to make it fit with your needs.

This options allow you to:

Group unlabeled bookmarks under the same label

Sort the labels alphabetically (default is by date)

Sort the bookmarks alphabetically (default is by date)

Label for bookmarks in Quick Launch Bar

These are just a few of the options that you can set when you install this add-on. I think you are going to love this extension as I felt in love when I tried it.

You can download it from here: Download BoogleMarks

Actually many people consider Google Chrome as on of the faster browser on the market, and I totally agree.

When I saw this add-on, in the beginning I asked to my self if should be possible to make Google Chrome even faster as it was already. I didn’t find an answer untill i tried it. The answer is: YES!

With FastestChrome you will increase Chrome’s power and speed. When I tried it I totally fell in love with it so now I’m writing to suggest you this fantastic add-on that will make your Google Chrome the fastest browser, and will give you a unique experience of navigation. You can now save time and enhance your productivity.

Here’s some features from the add-on’s page:

Endless Pages automatically loads the next page just before you reach the end so you don’t have to click “Next” or wait

Look up definitions instantly by highlighting a word

Better Google: shows you relevant results from real-time and shopping search engines such as OneRiot and Amazon

Search more conveniently: select text then click on a search engine to search

Automatically turns text URLs into links

Adds related articles to Wikipedia

So I think if something is done very well this doesn’t mean you can’t make it even better!

To download FastestChrome click here

Pwn2Own is the world’s most advanced conference focusing on applied digital security. In its first session, the best hackers of the world have tried to hack all of the most famous browsers, trying to breach in through their vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

Among the browsers that have been tested, you can find Safari on iPhone, Safari 4 on Mac Os X, Mozilla Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7, and Chrome. Here is a brief summary of the results:

The security researchers Vincenzo Iozzo and Ralf Philipp Weinmann managed to “hack” the protections of the iPhone through Safari in just 20 seconds. To do it they used an exploit that is integrated in a web page and, when you open this page, the hacker will be able to send to a remote server all the text messages in the device memory.

For the IE8 and Firefox 3 on Windows 7, the hacker, have used different exploits that allow the intruder to bypass, in both cases, the ASLR e DEP protections.

The only browser that has not succumbed to the efforts of professionals is Google Chrome 4. They said that’s because of his architecture based on sandbox that prevents the execution of code that can change the system, or access sensitive data.

So, is Google Chrome really climbing its way to the top? This is a question that we are willing to know the answer for, but who knows?!

To restore Firefox to its default settings, without having to uninstall it, you had to pass through its Safe Mode: nothing long or complicated, but still something that might be avoided easily. As it is with Chrome!

In fact, restoring Google Chrome to its default settings is really easy as doing three clicks:

On the top right of your Chrome’s screen open the Tools menu, and select Options

There just select the last tab on the right, named Under the Hood.

Look all the way down, and there you will find the Reset to defaults button.

That’s it! Nothing could be easier!

As Google says on the official Chrome help page, this operation will reset the following settings:

Home page: The New Tab page is set as the home page and displays whenever you start up Google Chrome. The Home button is turned off on the toolbar.

Passwords: Google Chrome offers to save your passwords.

Download location: The default location for new downloads is Documents and Settings<user>My DocumentsDownloads .

Security and privacy:

All cookies are allowed.

Phishing and malware protection is enabled.

Smart navigation error suggestions are enabled.

DNS pre-fetching is enabled.

Address bar suggestions are enabled.

Google Chrome extensions are a great way to add more features and functionality to the browser. Sometimes, a feature is really useful for some people, but not for everyone. Extensions let you customize Google Chrome with features you like, while keeping your browser free of clutter that you don’t use.

That’s how Google itself describes its new extensions search engine, which all of us were waiting for, and that already features more than 1000 entries.

In fact, just some days ago, they launched this beta channel that is starting to collect all of the best extensions that developers are currently making. Just as Firefox’s extensions page, Google lets you browse all the most popular, recent and featured extensions, in a simple and clean way as only Google does, allowing developers to publish their own creations by simply logging with they Google account, and users to download, vote and review them easily.

Lets see other features:

Extension Page

Each extension has its own page, where all the related information are collected, and where people can install it from, with just one click.

It obviously features the install button on the top as well as the statistic that help you understand how good that extension really is: you can find a rating, also with the number of people who voted, number of users that downloaded it, and how many of them installed it during the last week. Just below the button you can find a full developer review in which he/she explains what the extension in all about.

On the page you can also find pictures, located on the right side of the screen, and a review/comment section, in which you can give a 1-to-5 star rating yourself, read other people’s opinions, and make your own suggestion or comment.

How To Manage Extensions

The extension manager is located into your settings menu, on right top of Chrome.

There you see all the extensions you installed, which of them are active, and you are able to easily uninstall, disable and update them: there is also a developer mode for custom installing and updating for technical users.

If available, you will also find an option menu button located on the right: here you will be able to customize how each extension behaves, and to set up advanced features that may not be active at the moment of installation.

Currently only the beta version of Chrome supports the extensions, but I bet that sooner than we expect they will be fully launched and integrated with the browser and, as they start circulating, we will be ready to review the best that come out!
