File Transfer To Be Added Into Gmail Chat

Google Talk integration inside Gmail is a superb idea, and it is slowly adding features such as voice and video talk. You are then able to have a full text/audio/video conference directly from into your inbox, with no need to install a standalone software.

Today’s news is that Google has announced that it’ll be adding to its browser-based chat client the ability to send files to contacts: file transfer transfers will work for photos, documents and maybe for small video files at the moment of its release.

We still do not know when the update will be released, but it’s certainly something we need to look forward to trying.

After 25 years from it’s first publication, a new version of We Are The World is out, called We Are The World 25 for Haiti, and this time it aims to help Haiti people come out of the disaster that has caused the loss of thousands of people. Led and produced (again) by the legendary Quincy Jones, in collaboration with Lionel Richie, it involves all of the major modern music personalities, starting from Celine Dion, The Black Eyed Peas, LL Cool J, Snoop Dog, Mary J Blige, Usher, Pink, Wyclef Jean, Akon, and much more.

Universe Firefox Is Now Browserland

A few days ago, UniverseFirefox.com has suddenly closed without any notice, but now we are back under the name Browserland, with more content and news to come.

browserland_intro

The reason why we had to close is that Mozilla claimed a trademark violation for the domain name, so we had to close immediately because we did not ask for permission when we opened Universe Firefox back in 2007.

We used to have almost 1000 visitors per day, and it’ll take a while to regain our traffic and PageRank, but we have tried to work out something in the Google index and maybe they will do something about it…or maybe not!

If you can, spread the word about this domain change, as we continue to work on optimizing the site again.

Thank you all, and sorry for the inconvenience!

5 Years Of Firefox

The Firefox project began as an experimental branch of the Mozilla project by Dave Hyatt and Blake Ross. They believed the commercial requirements of Netscape’s sponsorship and developer-driven feature creep compromised the utility of the Mozilla browser. To combat what they saw as the Mozilla Suite’s software bloat, they created a stand-alone browser, with which they intended to replace the Mozilla Suite. On April 3, 2003, the Mozilla Organization announced that they planned to change their focus from the Mozilla Suite to Firefox (and Thunderbird).

Originally titled Phoenix, it was renamed because of trademark issues with Phoenix Technologies. The replacement name, Firebird, provoked an intense response from the Firebird free database software project. In response, the Mozilla Foundation stated that the browser should always bear the name Mozilla Firebird to avoid confusion with the database software. Continuing pressure from the database server’s development community forced another change; on February 9, 2004, Mozilla Firebird became Mozilla Firefox, often referred to as simply Firefox.

Currently at version 3.5, and with a version 3.6 just around the corner, the Mozilla foundation has completely redesigned the standard of web browser for a faster, more secure and reliable way of surfing the net.

Here is a short video, posted by the SpreadFirefox Community that briefly tells the browser’s history through these five years, from 2004 until today:
