Would you like to know how the new browser from Microsoft behaves when compared with Mozilla’s latest version? Well, here are some the test tables I found on Taranfx‘s web site that show a comparison chart between all major browsers with Javascript and GPU usage.
Here the results:
- Javascript engine performances in various browsers (realized by SunSpider):

As you can see the new IE’s Javascript engine, Chakra, seems to be one of the best, just under to Chrome 5.0 and Opera; at the same level with safari and just above of Firefox in the both versions (3.6, 3.7) - Here the result to the second test with a graphic that shows how the various browsers exploit the GPU:

The test was performed by testing Google Maps, Maps Bing and other experiments made especially for IE9: the highest number of FPS (frames per second) is played the winner.
Obviously Internet Explorer 9 has won the challenge. Infact, except Opera 10.5, that, with its engines, Carkan and Vega, gets along well enough and Firefox 3.7 in but not yet mature, all other browsers do not support hardware acceleration.
I think its still too soon to judge IE9 now, but there are some good chances that Microsoft will be able to pack a good product!
